A fundraising campaign by health care company CareOne has raised $1.3 million in support of long-time employee and cancer patient Dan Grimes, CEO Daniel E. Straus announced.
The CareOne Cancer Fund In Honor Of Dan Grimes was inspired by the 42-year-old Massachusetts native and CareOne/HealthBridge executive, who was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer despite never having smoked. The fund will provide financial support to employees like Grimes facing the challenges associated with a cancer diagnosis, allowing them to focus on themselves, their families and their recovery. The fund will also provide grants to cancer research.
Fort Lee-based CareOne’s facilities in New Jersey provide post-hospital care, rehabilitation and assisted living.
A series of nearly 100 events created by Grimes’ CareOne/HealthBridge colleagues generated a significant portion of money raised for the fund. CareOne staff in New Jersey, Virginia and Massachusetts joined forces to raise money for the campaign.
Straus said: “Dan Grimes is an important member of our CareOne family. He has been instrumental in many of our charitable efforts over the last few years, inspiring us all with his dedication and service to others. Now it is our turn to help him and his family, and others fighting cancer.
